The SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management is a nationally accredited qualification designed to develop confident, job-ready hospitality leaders. Combining practical management skills with hands-on industry experience, the course prepares students for leadership roles across hotels, restaurants, events, and tourism venues.
Students gain real-world experience through experiential learning across four Erdi Hotels, including 9 weeks of unpaid and 11 weeks of paid industry placement, with exposure to food and beverage, housekeeping, and guest services. Delivered by experienced industry professionals, the qualification supports clear pathways into roles such as hotel supervisor, duty manager, food and beverage manager, and hospitality operations manager.

You are considered an International student if you are:
- NOT an Australian or New Zealand citizen
- NOT an Australian Permanent Resident
- NOT a holder of an Australian Humanitarian Visa
Entry Requirements

The student must have sound language, literacy and numeracy (at least year 10 or equivalent).
Applicants from non-English speaking backgrounds are required to provide any one of the following forms of evidence of upper intermediate proficiency in English.
- IELTS total band score of at least 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent.
- Occupational English Test (OET0, TOEFL, IBT, Pearson Test of English, Cambridge English Advanced with scores equivalent to 6.0 and no less than 5.5 in each band.
- The English test must have been taken within two years the application is made.
Other pathways
- Completion of Australian year 12 certificate, a Certificate IV or higher qualification in Australia within the last 5 years.

Industry Placement
Immersive Learning Environment

You will gain access to work placements across Erdi’s private collection of hospitality businesses, as well as our extensive network of industry partners. This provides unparalleled exposure to operational realities, professional standards, and industry practices. By learning in realistic environments and working alongside experienced hospitality leaders, you’ll graduate with not only the skills, but the confidence, insight, and connections needed to excel in hotels, restaurants, events, and tourism.
Areas included in the placement will be as follows:
F&B
Develop practical skills in food and beverage service operations, customer service, and team coordination within restaurants, bars, and event settings.
Business Operations
Gain exposure to basic human resource functions, staff coordination, budgeting, and financial administration within hospitality operations.
Accommodation
Learn effective housekeeping operations, quality standards, and workplace health and safety practices in hotel and accommodation environments.
Guest Services
Build front-of-house skills including guest reception, reservations, portering services, and professional communication in a hotel environment.
Paid placements are subject to students meeting workplace performance, attendance and professional conduct requirements.
Real-World Hospitality Experience
As part of the Diploma of Hospitality Management, students complete an industry placement over 20 weeks* typically 3 days per week and aligned with course delivery. This includes 9 weeks unpaid and 11 weeks paid providing hands-on experience in real hospitality environments.
During your placement you will:
- Complete structured workplace tasks directly linked to your units of competency
- Be supported by qualified trainers and assessors, alongside experienced and approved workplace supervisors.
- Take part in teacher-guided learning activities, helping you build confidence and practical skills on the job
- Be assessed in the workplace*, with evidence gathered through observations, workplace documents, logbooks and supervisor feedback.
*Units partially assessed during Industry placement are clearly identified in the course delivery schedule and are designed to ensure you graduate job-ready, with real-world experience valued by employers.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)*
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows your existing skills, knowledge and experience to be formally recognised towards your qualification. This may include learning gained through employment, workplace training, life experience or previous study.
To apply, submit your current resume and relevant academic transcripts to the Erdi Academy Enrolments team. You will then receive personalised advice on your eligibility, course requirements, timelines and fees. If you choose to proceed, you will be required to provide evidence via an electronic portfolio. This process concludes with a final assessment interview to determine the outcome of the RPL application.
Credit transfer (CTR)*
Credit transfer allows you to receive recognition for units you have already successfully completed through previous formal study with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Our team will assess unit equivalency and advise you of approved credits and remaining course requirements, updated timelines and fees.
Assessment Methods
Assessment is designed to measure both practical skills and underpinning knowledge in line with Australian VET standards. Methods may include:
- Observation of practical skills in the workplace or through role play simulation
- Questioning through self-assessment activities, verbal responses, written questionnaires or structured interviews
- Third party reports from approved workplace supervisors
- Structured assessment activities such as projects, case studies, presentation, role play, demonstrations, progressive tasks or portfolios.
